Brendan Hoffman Receives Magnum Foundation Fund Grant

Brendan Hoffman has been selected as a 2019 grantee of the Magnum Foundation, which will enable him to carry out an extension of The Beating of the Heart, his long-term work in Webster City, Iowa. The grant is in partnership with the Economic Hardship Reporting Project.

His work will involve collaborating with Webster City’s local daily print newspaper, the Freeman-Journal at a time when Iowa is in the national spotlight. For approximately two and a half months, starting in late November, he will be the paper’s photographer-in-residence, conducting daily assignments while also leading a visual storytelling workshop for local students, community members and newspaper contributors. The Daily Freeman-Journal is also the recent recipient of a Facebook Journalism Project Community Network Grant, partially in connection with Hoffman’s collaboration with the paper.
