Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky for Libération

Brendan Hoffman photographed Ukraine’s president, Volodymyr Zelensky, for French newspaper Libération ahead of the country’s 30th anniversary of independence and his long-anticipated White House meeting with American President Joseph R. Biden Jr. on September 1. Zelensky, in office since 2019, was at the heart of President Donald J. Trump’s first impeachment scandal when Trump attempted to pressure Zelensky into initiating a politically-motivated investigation into the work of Biden’s son Hunter for a Ukrainian energy company.
