The Edvard Grieg Children’s Choir Honor the World’s Frontline Workers Fighting COVID-19
By Melanie Burford
Six children aged 11-15 from the Edvard Grieg Kor Talent Program in Bergen, Norway use the power of music to honor frontline workers throughout the world for their courageous efforts battling the coronavirus. Using Zoom to rehearse from their homes before recording the music standing two meters apart in the music studios at Grieg Hall during quarantine, the six-member choir sang The Lord is my Shepherd (hymn 23) by Howard Goodall (Faber Music) under the leadership of Conductor Håkon Matti Skrede.
The resulting film documents the challenges to create music during quarantine as the world responds to the coronavirus pandemic. It also documents a deep gratitude for the heroic efforts made by healthcare professionals, researchers and frontline workers throughout the world.
The film is a collaborative project between Edvard Grieg Kor, Helse Bergen and the University of Bergen and is produced by Melanie Burford, Silvereye Pictures.
